Vibe

This demo reel covers many of the video production, brand assets, and advertising spots I’ve developed, written, produced, directed, and edited for clients, collaborators, and myself.

Pain Point

After surviving two rounds of layoffs in 2025, several other creatives and I were let go from the marketing agency we were a part of. I needed to develop an advertisement for myself as a brand strategist and consultant. Time was of the essence.

Solution

A demo video featuring clips of my greatest productions and client work over the last decade. Standalone AI-generated content was also incorporated due to viewer demand and market trends.

Resolution

This video came together in three days. I was laid off on Monday. This video was published on Wednesday. It quickly spread across Facebook and LinkedIn, causing clients and colleagues to share work and networking opportunities.

Project Overview

Simply put, this is a demo video highlighting my work in narrative film, advertising, educational content, documentaries, and AI-generated content. The narration leads the viewer through my branding philosophy and how I look at client work. I firmly believe there is a great story around every corner, whether the topic is a human, animal, idea, building, town, or even a utility. If it interacts with humankind in any manner whatsoever, the story is waiting to be told.

Additional Information About The Work

There were an overwhelming number of projects over the course of my career I could have chosen to incorporate into this video. In the end, I opted for a quick clip, montage appeal. While many demo videos include longer segments of work to allow for greater viewer context, my main goal was to highlight the breadth of content I have produced. If my priority was to get the word out to as many people as I possibly could about what I do, then I needed less context and more variety in the visuals while the audio explained.

I’m typically a fan of showing rather than telling, but I believe as much as the narrator told, the visuals are even more telling of the care and effort I put into any project I touch.

Additional Information About the Results

I was touched by the response this video received. Within an hour, people were sharing, commenting, and reacting to it. I had a larger-than-average jump in DMs on LinkedIn asking about my next steps and projects. This video is still shared from time to time nearly a year later. Therefore, it’s leveraged as a branding asset for myself across my freelance work and the brand strategy work I do with my firm, Valley Strategy.

Get in Scott’s Mind

Life is hard. It’s fun to escape. Run away into the surreal and intriguing world of Scott’s thoughts. These posts will keep you apprised of what Scott is up to and how he’s building a better culture for the world one story at a time.

Enter the Zeitgeist

The process is simple.

You scream from the rooftops. I scream from the rooftops. You think it’s an echo, but then it keeps going. You realize it’s me responding to your initial rooftop scream. We find each other. We discuss the story you’re trying to tell at a much more reasonable volume. I research your audience and develop your story in a way that helps you connect with your target audience.

If you aren’t a fan of yelling across vast distances or it’s cold outside, we could try carrier pigeons or smoke signals, but emailing might be easier. Actually, yeah. Let’s just go with that.

Not sure you’re “story” material? That’s ridiculous. You’ve started a business or are helping it grow. There are more sane things to do with your time, trust me. Look at the other crazy people in history. Why do we remember them? Because they made a good story.
