Welcome to Hell

A Sitcom Proving Life Really is a Living Hell

Producer / Writer / Assistant Director / Boom Operator

Project Overview

This series started out as a web series, then turned into a movie, and finally resulted in a pilot that reached the final round or judgement for the Sundance Screenwriting Lab! Telling the story of two men who have found themselves in Hell for one reason or another, Welcome to Hell is a comedy that blends dark humor with dreadful undertones that feel all too familiar to viewers.

Personal Statement

This series was a passion project of mine. It was developed over the years from 2018 to 2020. We finally brought it to life in October 2020 after what seemed like endless preproduction, casting, rewriting, and crew changes. I’m very honored to have worked with the team that helped me see this project through to the end.

How I Grew as a Part of This Project

We ran into scheduling issues time and time again as we neared production. The worst moment was the day before when our Director and Director of Photography both came down with COVID at the same time in April 2020. We had to prioritize health and we were scared because at that time, we didn’t know what we know now about the virus. It was an awful time leading up an ever-escaping shoot date. Finally, we had a healthy cast, crew, and a sanitized set in Q4 2020. I long believed I was a patient creative, but this project capitalized on that and finally brought out the problem solver in me once things calmed down a bit.

Enter the Zeitgeist

The process is simple.

You scream from the rooftops. I scream from the rooftops. You think it’s an echo, but then it keeps going. You realize it’s me responding to your initial rooftop scream. We find each other. We discuss the story you’re trying to tell at a much more reasonable volume. I research your audience and develop your story in a way that helps you connect with your target audience.

If you aren’t a fan of yelling across vast distances or it’s cold outside, we could try carrier pigeons or smoke signals, but emailing might be easier. Actually, yeah. Let’s just go with that.

Not sure you’re “story” material? That’s ridiculous. You’ve started a business or are helping it grow. There are more sane things to do with your time, trust me. Look at the other crazy people in history. Why do we remember them? Because they made a good story.
